Carmela ‘Mel’ Tiangco

WINNER – MOST TRUSTED TV HOST FOR NEWS & CURRENT AFFAIRS

Multi-awarded news anchor Carmela ‘Mel’ Tiangco is regarded as one of the greats of Philippine journalism with more than 30 years in the public eye.

As one of the faces of GMA’s top-rated newscast 24 Oras, Mel has been associated with the show’s success for over 20 years. She also currently hosts the weekly drama anthology Magpakailanman.

“Aside from the nitty-gritty and the details, you need to be in love with life. You need to love people.”

Over the years, her professionalism has captured the attention not only of viewers but also of other journalists who see her as an inspiration. At the network, she is fondly known as ‘Tita Mel’ among her colleagues because of her mentorship of younger generations, which she considers an integral part of her role.

In 2019, Mel was the first broadcast journalist to be conferred the Rotary Peace Award, the highest honor awarded by Rotary International District 3830. She has also been elevated to the Hall of Fame by Anak TV and EdukCircle (Outstanding Journalist in Public Service) and has been a recipient of awards from the Philippine Movie Press Club and COMGUILD Center for Journalism, among others.

She also has an extensive record of public service. In 2002, she joined the GMA Kapuso Foundation, the network’s socio-civic arm, serving as executive vice president and CEO until 2016. Currently, she holds the roles of ambassador and special advisor for the foundation.

Congratulations to Mel for being voted the Most Trusted TV Host for News & Current Affairs for 2025.
