IN EVERY CRISIS OPPORTUNITIES ARISE. When the economic turmoil of 1983 disrupted the supply of imported canned sardines in the Philippines, Century Canning Corp. (now Century Pacific Food Inc.) turned to its expertise in tuna canning and ventured into sardines processing. Mr. Ricardo Po, Sr., the company’s founder who had a marketing background, knew that the brand should stand out. 555 Sardines, a brand with easy recall, was thus born and became the company’s first home-grown brand.
