Atom Araullo

TODAY ATOM, or Alfonso Tomas Pagaduan Araullo in full, is recognised for his documentaries on the GMA network such as The Atom Araullo Specials, I-Witness, Stand for Truth and the award-winning Philippine Seas.

But he had an early start on our TV screens, being first seen as a skinny ten year old in 5 and Up, an information show presented by kid reporters. The experience gave him a taste of life in the media, he says, “seeing how things are done behind the scenes; preparing for a shoot, being in the field, and also seeing how the stories are put together.”

Atom, who describes himself as a curious and inquisitive person, idolised nature documentary filmmaker Sir David Attenborough growing up. He did a science degree and worked in academia before returning to the world of media to fulfil some of his childhood dreams. He is frank about the difficulties and challenges that broadcast journalists come up against, and sees his role as being a responsible communicator and having an opportunity to contribute something to society. “It’s to make sure you are a positive force in the age of misinformation,” he says.

Congratulations to Atom for being voted the Most Trusted TV Host For News & Current Affairs for 2024.
